Academy Talk

In this section J4K gives advice to parents on how to deal with football academies,

Do NOT get conned this summer!

Its that time of year when football clubs throughout the UK, hold their 1 to 3 goalkeeper camps. EVERY year these clubs know how easy it is to get parents to coff up their hard arn money and attend their courses...

a favourite for all is:

'Come to XYZ FC goalkeeper course and you could get a trial at our club!'

Now i am not saying your son will not get a trial but the STRONG chances are if i am too be honest , he will not. Generally on these courses, they will have young GK coaches who have not really got the expertise to understand what goalkeeping talent actually is.

am i saying do not go on these courses? No I am not!

If you want to your child to attend these courses, treat them what most really are, a baby sitting service so your child has somewhere to go while off school.

PLEASE do not put pressure on your child to perform at these courses, because at the end of the day, most clubs do this to make money, not to find talent! so please just make sure your child goes to have fun... this way there is no pressure on him to perform.
